Woodwinds | BM | MM | DMA |

The Division of Woodwinds in the Department of Music & Dance is comprised of five full-time faculty, all of whom are artist-level performers and teachers of their instruments. Enrollment in private lessons with members of the woodwind faculty is open to all university students regardless of their major. Woodwind graduates have distinguished themselves within the music profession by achieving positions of leadership in colleges, universities, chamber ensembles, bands and orchestras throughout the country.

The Kansas Woodwinds

The Kansas Woodwinds has enjoyed a long association with the Department of Music & Dance at the University of Kansas. The six members are active as performers, teachers, clinicians, and adjudicators. This group has performed throughout the Midwest and at such events as the College Music Society and MENC national conventions, and the Annual Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic. Programs are drawn from the extensive repertoire of works written for the woodwind quintet as well as various combinations of wind instruments, ranging from duets to sextets and spanning styles from Baroque to contemporary. In addition to its active performance schedule, the Kansas Woodwinds presents workshops and clinics in the public schools. A recent compact disc recording, Kansas Woodwinds, is available through the Department of Music & Dance.

Auditions

Your audition with the Department of Music & Dance is crucial. It serves as an application to the department. It is also a contributing factor in scholarship considerations.

An audition is required for all music degree programs and scholarship consideration. Information on audition procedures and requirement are found on the Music Audition Application Form. The suggested compositions are indications of musical styles and levels of difficulty for prospective undergraduate student auditions. Compositions of comparable difficulty are acceptable. If you have doubts about substitute pieces, you may contact the appropriate faculty member.
