Department of Art
The Department of Art is divided into the areas of Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture and Expanded Media. The department offers 124-credit hour Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees, as well as a 60-credit hour Master of Fine Arts degree. The undergraduate program includes a Professional Activities Seminar that helps prepare seniors for gallery representation, graduate school application and alternative career opportunities.
Students can also earn a BFA in Art History which encourages an awareness of 20th century art and non-Western culture, along with the Western surveys. The graduate program in Art History includes a seminar that not only provides a forum for peer review and critique, but also assists students in preparing for public presentations of their work, Fulbright fellowship application and the development of a professional artist statement.

Enrollment
Approximately 800-850 undergraduate majors are enrolled in the Departments of Art and Design. Approximately 225 are in the freshman class, while 150 are upper-level art majors and 450 are design majors.
Average class size is 18 students. Classes meet for longer time periods than do general educational courses due to the nature of studio work.
Students from other disciplines may take classes through special permission of the department as space allows
